FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These texts are freely available all over the Internet. You charge for them. What gives?
Sure, most if not all of these texts are available for free on the Internet. However, wrangling text that is copy-pasted from old HTML and PDFs in your word processor can be a monumental task. We have already done all of the work for you.
You say you’ve “done all the work for you.” What have you done, exactly?
We parse every script with Final Draft, the industry-leading screenwriting software. Through this process, Final Draft becomes aware of scene numbers, scene locations, characters, dialogue, and actions and formats them in standard screenplay and stageplay formats.
Why is that good?
Let’s face it. Scripts have changed since the 1600s.
The standard screenplay format is easier to read and comprehend. It draws clear distinctions between the elements mentioned above.
For entertainment professionals, it is the way in which you work every day.
For teachers, it’s a great way for students to get a head start in understanding today’s script formatting through classical texts.
For producers and directors, our editable files allow you to make your own cuts and even add stage directions and tech cues into the script itself.
What do you mean by editable files?
We sell three versions of each text.
.pdf, .rtf, and .fdx
Portable Document (.pdf)
A PDF is a printable version of the text outputted directly from our Final Draft master files. PDFs are fully compatible with most computer platforms and readers. You can view and print the text. It is also fully compatible with apps such as Rehearsal Pro 2.0.
Rich Text (.rtf)
Outputted directly from the Final Draft primary file, this version is universally compatible with most if not all word processors. This option is best for anyone who wants to make edits within the script but doesn’t own fancy screenwriting software like Final Draft.
Final Draft (.fdx)
The fully parsed, fully formatted play in Final Draft file type. Final Draft not only formats the play perfectly but also allows you to track different elements within the play itself. You can generate reports for scenes characters and locations which allows producers to make better use of time when putting together call sheets and rehearsal schedules.
Like the RTF. format, the Final Draft .FDX file is fully editable. Make cuts, add your own cues, etc. the possibilities are really endless.
I use a different screenwriting program than Final Draft. Can I use the .fdx files with my screenwriting software?
Yes! These files can be opened with Today’s leading screenwriting software. Import the file directly into Celtx, Writer Duet, Movie Magic Screenwriter, etc.
